Hey there! We totally understand how exhilarating it is to ride your reliable electric scooter through the bustling streets of the city. But, while you're riding around like a pro, let's not forget about the most crucial aspect - safety. Yes, just like when you're driving any other mode of transport, it's important to prioritise safety. So, in this article, we're going to discuss some super-simple electric scooter safety tips that'll ensure your rides stay safe and sound. Ready? Let's dive in!
Essential electric scooter safety tips:
1. Wear safety gear: When it comes to riding an electric scooter, wear safety gear as would on a petrol scooter. Think of it as your superhero suit that protects you from potential accidents. Make sure you have a helmet that fits snugly and covers your entire head. Remember, sudden accidents can happen anytime, even if you're an experienced rider. So, always be prepared by wearing appropriate electric scooter safety gears.2. Watch out for pedestrians:Electric scooters are known for being quiet on the road. While this is great for reducing noise pollution, the absence of sound can pose a safety concern. Both riders and pedestrians need to be aware of their surroundings. Whether you're riding or walking, make sure to stay alert and look out for each other. This will help to minimise the chances of accidents.3. Make use of dependable E-scooter safety features:Ather e-scooters bring you many safety features for a worry-free ride!

Emergency Stop Signal (ESS) - for those sudden braking moments, your tail lights start blinking alerting people behind you well in advance.

FallSafe - if you suddenly take a fall, the FallSafe feature has you covered by cutting power to the motor and signalling to others with blinking indicator lights.

Dual disc brakes - and for those adrenaline-pumping quick stops, trust the Ather 450 dual disc brakes to bring you to a halt quickly and safely (60 to 0 km/hr in < 2 secs).

4. Take electric scooter battery safety measures:To ensure your safety, pay attention to potential battery related issues such as physical damage, or short circuits. Always use the charger that came with your scooter and avoid using damaged equipment. If you notice any signs of inflammation, such as smoke, intense heat, or a swollen battery, act quickly and alert Ather customer service as well as the relevant authorities.5. Be a law-abiding rider:It's important to remember that electric scooters are considered vehicles, and as such, you should follow all traffic rules. Avoid overspeeding and always ride at a safe speed. By being a predictable and courteous rider, you contribute to a safer environment for everyone sharing the road.6. Stay sharp and alert:When you're out cruising on your electric scooter, your safety should always be a top priority. Stay alert and avoid distractions such as listening to music at loud volumes or checking your phone while riding. Keep an eye out for potential hazards like potholes, debris, or sudden changes in traffic. These unexpected surprises can appear out of nowhere, but by staying aware, you'll be able to react quickly and avoid accidents. Remember, being proactive and vigilant can go a long way in ensuring your safety on the road.
What to do in an emergency situation?
Accidents can happen even if you're well-prepared and cautious. That's why it's essential to have contingency plans in place. If an accident does occur, staying calm is crucial. Assess any injuries and seek medical attention if necessary. And in case things get really tough, make sure you have a plan for reaching emergency services quickly. Whether it's through your mobile device or by locating a nearby help station, having a means of contacting emergency services can make all the difference in getting the help you need when you need it.
Conclusion:
E-scooters offer a fantastic way to navigate the city, but it's crucial to prioritise safety as with any other petrol scooter, always. By considering the safety tips, you can ensure a smooth and secure ride. Remember to wear your safety gear and take care of your electric scooter battery. The Ultimate Guide to Electric Scooter Helmets

Ultimate Guide to Electric Scooter Helmets | Ather Blogs

Helmets. They’re not just the law, they’re lifesavers. Wearing a helmet while riding a motorised two-wheeler vehicle is mandatory in India according to the Motor Vehicles Act - a law which is very strictly adhered to in most parts of India, and rightly so. According to a 2022 report on Road Accidents in India, the number of deaths caused by road accidents in India have risen to over 1.5 lakh a year, and wearing helmets - of the right quality - can help significantly reduce this tragic number. The Motor Vehicles Act also applies to electric scooters in India to protect riders. Despite being loaded with safety features such as FallSafe™, Dual Disc Brakes etc., it is still of utmost importance to wear a helmet before any ride taken on an Ather electric scooter. In this article, we will look at the electric scooter helmet - why it’s so important, what to look for while buying one, and where to get the right one for your head.
What do helmets do?
A helmet is a form of protective gear worn to protect the head. More specifically, a helmet complements the skull in protecting the human brain. As early as the BC era, man has recognised the need to protect one’s head from potential impact that can be fatal or cause lifelong, irreversible damage. In the modern day, helmets are designed to provide enhanced safety for the head, eyes (visors), mouth, jaws, ears and other parts of the cranial area that are as prone to damage as the skull itself. In a nutshell, in the event of a high-impact collision, the right helmet can save a life by absorbing maximum impact and reducing the force the skull has to bear in protecting the brain. For riders of Ather helmets, it can also be a really cool style statement as well. Read on to know how.
How to identify the right electric scooter helmet?
In modern times, helmets are designed and made differently for their varied uses. According to the law, you can’t just wear a cricket helmet or construction helmet on the roads - your riding helmet needs to meet certain quality standards, fit a certain way and have certain features. Let us explore these features.Certification: The difference between a good quality helmet and a bad one could be the difference between life and death. Therefore, certain safety standards must be adhered to by all electric scooter helmet manufacturers. So when you’re buying, look for helmets that meet the safety standards set by trusted certifying organizations, such as DOT, ECE, or ISI (ISI: 4151 is the code for helmet safety standards). This is a guarantee that the helmet has passed rigorous testing, thereby assuring quality.Type: There are essentially two types of electric scooter helmets that are permitted for use while riding (and for the pillion rider too, in some cities/states of India) based on the amount of protection provided. Full face helmets cover the entire head and face area, including the mouth and jaw, whereas Half face helmets cover the head area, up to the ears. While the decision rests with the user’s comfort level, the extra protection of the Full Face Helmet is highly recommended.Fit: Getting a helmet of the right size is another absolutely crucial aspect to consider. A helmet that’s too loose could fly off on high impact. A helmet that’s too tight or uncomfortable impairs the rider’s concentration and doesn’t effectively prevent shockwaves from going through the skull and impacting the brain. Just like with clothes - bike helmets come in standardised sizes (small, medium, large etc.) and you can try it on before purchase. The helmet you choose must snugly fit your head and not move around excessively, but also feel comfortable and not too weighty on the head. It should cover the forehead and sit low on the back of the head.Materials & Construction: Much has evolved when it comes to the choice of material that provides maximum safety to the wearer’s head. While metal and plastic have been used in the past, synthetic materials like polycarbonate, fibreglass or carbon fibre are now being used as they provide both durability and lightness. These offer varying degrees of impact protection and your choice must be made considering your riding behaviour, especially aspects like the type of road and speed in which you ride. The visor, too, must be made to provide clear, unimpaired vision and must be easy to wipe.Ventilation: An underrated, but essential factor to consider is breathability. Look for helmets that offer adequate airflow, especially for long rides. The right ventilation is essential for the comfort of the rider by preventing excessive sweating and visor fogging.Accessories: Some helmets are equipped with additional features like Bluetooth that complement other electric scooter accessories. Invest in them if you must, but remember, safety is the #1 priority!
Where to buy the best electric scooter helmets?
Nearly every Indian city has a massive population of two-wheelers, and therefore, a massive supply of good-quality rider helmets. Check out your neighbouring helmet shop and you should get a great variety in a fit and finish that suits you.Additionally, you can buy helmets and other accessories online on the Ather website as well. Ather Electric Scooter Display Screen Comparison with other Brands

Gone are the days when your scooter’s only purpose was to get you from one place to another. Electric scooters aren’t just scooters, they’re on-road computers, which makes the electric scooter display screen the user interface. Therefore, it’s one of the most vital components of the modern electric scooter. It doesn’t get you from one place to another but does everything to make the journey much easier and more insightful.
Ather electric scooter display features
When Ather built the Ather 450X flagship model, they did so intending to make it the most advanced scooter in the market. It became vital to ensure that the user experience of the scooter had to be advanced too - to a level never seen in an Indian two-wheeler before. Not only it had to be an excellent electric scooter LCD display screen, but it also had to be a touch-enabled control centre for a ride experience, loaded with features and insights that aided the ride and overall daily running of the Ather 450X scooter. When the Ather 450X display screen was born, it was, and arguably still is, the most advanced electric scooter display screen in the Indian market. Here are some of the vital and extra features on your Ather electric scooter:

17.7 cm (7”) TFT screen: The Ather 450X display screen is 7 inches, which is larger than your average smartphone screen. It’s the perfect size for an electric scooter LCD display. TFT screens give you sharper visibility with minimised eye strain and power consumption and a faster response time on touch.

Water-resistant & dust-proof: Washing your scooter or Heavy rains? Don’t worry about the screen going kaput. The display screen of Ather 450 is IP65-rated, which means it can withstand water splashes and heavy rains. It also has the highest level of dust protection, perfect for riding through dusty city streets without compromising on-screen visibility.

Google Maps Integration: This is a big one, folks! The Ather 450X is the world’s first scooter to have a completely Google Maps-integrated navigation system. No more shifting between your phone and the road while riding on a new route. Get all the benefits of Google Maps like Street View, 2 wheeler maps, alternate routes, ETA and more ONLY on the Ather 450X display screen.

Snapdragon 212 Quadcore 1.3 GhZ: When we say the Ather 450X is an on-road computer, we aren’t kidding! The display screen is run by a powerful processor, equivalent to the ones seen on Android smartphones and tablet PCs, so you can run Maps, listen to music, adjust the electric scooter display settings and ride at the same time! It’s a multi-tasking machine.

Bluetooth 4.2: It’s a 3 point bluetooth connectivity unlike the regular bluetooth available on scooters or bikes. With the Ather 450X display’s advanced Bluetooth settings, connect your phone seamlessly with your scooter and listen to music or take/reject calls at the press of a button. The interface also allows you to play DJ by easily navigating through your playlist, skipping back and forth, volume adjustment and more!

Dark mode: Riding through dark streets at night? You don’t have to stop to adjust your electric scooter display settings. Just switch on Dark Mode, and get instantly better visibility on your screen, even on badly lit roads.

Other features: The Ather electric scooter display screen is equipped with 2GB RAM & 16GB storage for what’s important, 4G connectivity for seamless music streaming and Android OS so you can get the apps you need for music streaming and more! All this with a sleek & fluid UI that is as fast, clean and intuitive as any other touchscreen display out there!

Comparing display screen technology
Nearly every electric scooter brand out there now comes equipped with a touchscreen display with electric scooter display settings suitable for riding in the city or highway. However, when compared to its contemporary competitors, the Ather 450X display screen is still the most advanced out there. For starters, the Ather 450X is still the only flagship scooter in India that has a seamless integration with Google Maps for navigation. This not only gives riders information on the best routes, it also throws up real-time data on traffic conditions, blockages, alternate routes and specific optimisation for scooters that can fit into narrow shortcuts.Another factor is the Operating System of non-Ather electric scooter LCD displays. While the Ather 450X comes with an Android Open Source OS, allowing you to get the best of what Android has to offer onto your scooter, the others have proprietary operating systems, thus giving you fewer advanced features in comparison. This seamlessly integrates with iOS smartphones too. While all electric scooters, including the Ather 450X, are well-connected to their app, the Ather 450X display screen gives riders more real-time data on its display rather than just only on the connected app.
Conclusion
When Ather put out the 450X, they put out a trailblazing scooter that is as much an intelligent computer as it is a smart performer. And that is evident in the fact that even competing electric scooters that were launched much later do not come with display screen technology that is as advanced and reliable as the one on the 450X. The Ather 450X comes with electric scooter display settings that are ideal for riders who like to multitask, while still keeping an eye on every detail of their ride. And it does all this in the most sleek, neat and interactive way imaginable. To know more, and to book a test ride to try out the 450X’s incredible display and its amazing features, click here.

Just like helmets are a must for electric scooter riders’ physical safety, insurance is a must for an e-scooter riders’ financial safety. In this article, we will talk about the law’s view on e-scooters, insurance coverage for e-scooters, and how you can buy electric scooter insurance online.
What are the laws on E-scooters?
With growing demand for electric scooters, it becomes more important for people making the switch to electric scooters to know the rules around insurance. As per the RTO and India’s Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, all bike or scooter owners must have insurance. E-scooters are no exception. Rules for Electric scooters are the same as petrol scooters in our country, and therefore, all the mandatories such as a valid Driver’s License, Vehicle Registration and insurance are a must have for anyone looking to ride an e scooter.
Introduction to electric scooter insurance
In India, road safety is a major issue. Thousands of vehicular accidents occur all across the country, and astronomical losses in terms of vehicular damage are not uncommon. The insurance ecosystem has been put in place to protect customers from these very losses.\With the rise in demand, most insurance providers across the country have taken the progressive step of creating specific electric scooter insurance policies - with different options in terms of insurance coverage for e-scooters:

Comprehensive Cover: This is the most recommended option for buying electric scooter insurance as it maximises insurance coverage for e-scooters. Comprehensive cover plans give you broad coverage - covering the overall settlement, including vehicle damage, third-party, the insured, and riders, if any, subject to terms and conditions. You can also pick from additional options like depreciation cover, break-down services and more, depending on the service provider’s offering.

Third Party Cover: This is the bare minimum option of insurance cover you must have for your e-scooter, as per the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. It gives you basic financial indemnity against damage to others or their vehicles or property. However, it does not cover medical expenses for the rider or own vehicle damage costs for the owner.

Hybrid options: To bridge the gap between the Comprehensive Cover option and the Third Party Cover option, some insurance providers offer best-of-both-worlds options like ‘Standalone Own Damage Coverage’ or ‘Limited Time Comprehensive Cover’, where the comprehensive coverage wears off after a limited period of time and turns into a Third Party Cover for the remaining duration of the insurance cover.

Do you need insurance for an E-Scooter?
Since e-scooters rules are governed by the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, insurance is mandatory for your e-scooter. Riding without insurance is considered a punishable offence, and if caught, you could be subject to a fine of ₹ 2,000, imprisonment up to 3 months and suspension of your driving licence. To avoid this, you can purchase electric scooter insurance online, or directly with your trusted insurance provider. At Ather, you can purchase Eight70, which is an extended 8 year battery warranty for the battery of the vehicle. However, this does not exempt you from having electric scooter insurance for your Ather e-scooter. There is a fundamental difference between insurance and warranty - an insurance policy is designed to keep your finances safe in case of an accident or other damage to your vehicle, while the warranty only covers a specific part of your vehicle.Buying a good insurance cover option isn’t just about abiding by the laws. It provides you financial security, so a mishap or unavoidable accident does not eat into your savings. The ultimate gain from a good policy is peace of mind - so you can actually enjoy riding your fantastic Ather e-scooter without the worry about the financial ramifications of an accident constantly gnawing at the back of your head.
How to get insurance for your electric scooter?
Ather representatives at the Experience Centers can recommend you the best options for a worry free ownership experience of Ather electric scooters. One can also buy the insurance online. It’s always a great idea to compare the offerings and premium prices of several insurance providers before settling on one. Examine their coverage options and the electric scooter insurance price carefully, or just ask the team at your nearest Ather Space for their recommendations.
Conclusion
Electric scooter rules mandate that you must have at least a Third Party Coverage electric scooter insurance policy for your Ather electric scooter. But, for complete financial security and peace-of-mind, we recommend comprehensive insurance cover. While it does increase the electric scooter insurance price, it also helps you ride hassle-free.

How to Prevent Fire Damages to Your Electric Scooter?

As with any revolutionary technological breakthrough, electric scooters go through stringent tests but as with any other scooter they are not without risk. The important thing is that, if maintained well, and instructions are followed correctly by the user, the risks far outweigh the good done by the product. In this article, we talk about electric scooter battery fire, electric scooter safety and how, with a few simple practices, it can all be prevented.
Why does an Electric Scooter Battery catch fire?
Ather Electric Scooter batteries are among the best out there in the market. Completely designed and built in India for Indian weather conditions, Ather electric scooter batteries are very reliable and safe. While incidents of electric scooter fire are extremely rare, it’s important to delve into the reasons why they occur, so you can safely mitigate the risks to your electric scooter safety. Some of the most common reasons for electric scooter battery fire are:

Battery malfunctions: One of the primary reasons an electric scooter battery catches fire is battery malfunctions, which in turn makes the highly-combustible Lithium-ion with which these batteries are made react adversely and catch fire. These can be caused by manufacturing problems such as inadequate battery manufacturing systems and defects, or misuse-related problems like overcharging, using unauthorised chargers for electric scooter charging or physical damage to the electric scooter battery. All these could result in a phenomenon known as thermal runway, an uncontrollable increase in temperature that can lead to fires or explosions. Ather Electric Scooters with a well tested Battery Management System avoids such mishaps.

Faulty or loose wiring: If the wiring leading to the electric scooter battery is faulty during the manufacturing process, or comes loose because of wear and tear time, it could cause sparks leading to an ignition source, which in turn could lead to a fire.

External factors: While the aforementioned causes are mostly internal, there are some external and environmental factors that could, in rare cases, cause an electric scooter battery fire. If one meets with an accident, it is always recommended to take it to the Ather Experience centre and get the battery inspected for cracks or damages. India has, of late, seen some really hot summers, and excessive exposure of your electric scooter to such heat, prolonged sunlight or extreme weather conditions can impact the electric scooter’s safety and the stability of its components.

Improper maintenance and modifications: Neglecting regular maintenance, or going to unauthorised mechanics for maintenance and modifications can cause component deterioration, tampered battery management systems and faulty wiring and connections, all of which can compromise the safety mechanisms put in by manufacturers like Ather, which could lead to electric scooter battery fire.

How to avoid Electric Scooter Fires

Now that we know the various reasons why electric scooter safety can be compromised, let’s look at what steps you can take to prevent an electric scooter fire in your Ather e-scooter:

Always use Ather-authorised chargers or the Ather Grid for Ather electric scooter charging. Do NOT borrow chargers, especially from riders of electric scooters made by other manufacturers. Do not buy chargers from outside vendors claiming to be selling Ather electric scooter charging devices.

Avoid overcharging your electric scooter. Most slow Ather chargers give you a 100% charge in 6-8 hours. Try to take it off charge at the earliest possible to give the battery a longer life.

Regularly inspect your electric scooter, as per your warranty or service terms, without delay, at Ather Service Centres only. Do not take your electric scooter to a road side mechanic, even for seemingly small fixes.

Park your e-scooter in a place where it has enough shade and protection from the direct, harsh sunlight and rain. Keep it in a place that is normal room temperature, even in the summers. If you don’t have such provisions, get yourself an Ather Scooter Cover at the Ather Store to protect your Ather from the elements.

When you wish to replace the battery, do not attempt to do it yourself. Instead, bring it to an authorised Ather Service Centre we’ll have it done for you in a jiffy.

Keep your electric scooter away from any inflammable or combustible materials, especially while charging.

Do not try to repair or modify your Ather scooter yourself.

Conclusion
It is a rare but a possibility that an electric scooter battery fire may occur, especially if the electric scooter is exposed to extreme heat, is cracked, overcharged, charged by the wrong charger or modified by the wrong mechanic. By keeping a few things in mind, we can all prevent electric scooter fire and enhance electric scooter safety.

The Ultimate Guide to Electric Scooter Tyres

Introduction
“Tyres make the world go round” would be a great quote… if anyone had actually said it. Tyres are essential in any vehicle, and every vehicle has specific kinds of tyres basis where they are used. With electric scooter tyres too, there are specific kinds of tyres that work, even though the vehicle is not very different from a regular petrol scooter. It’s important for owners to know the different kinds of electric scooter tyres so you can choose the best tyres for your electric scooter. This article introduces you to electric scooter tyres and gives tips on how you can maintain them to last long.

How are Electric Scooter Tyres Different?
While there are similarities in the basic construction between electric scooter tyres and traditional scooter tyres, they do differ in terms of design, functionality, requirements and maintenance considerations. Simply put, they look the same, but are completely different from one another. Here are some of the key differences between petrol scooter tyres and electric scooter tyres:

Construction: Unlike their petrol scooter counterparts, electric scooter tyres are optimised for electric scooter propulsion systems and can handle the instant torque delivery of Warp™ Mode acceleration. They are made to handle the specific weight distribution that the electric scooter manufacturer has designed.

Performance: Tyres for electric scooters are designed to offer good traction and grip, especially during high acceleration.

Size and load capacity: Factors such as battery weight and motor placement determine what electric scooter tyre sizes are ideal for your electric scooter.

Quiet operation: Electric scooters are renowned for their quietness, and therefore, even the tyres are built to reduce road noise and complement the quiet electric propulsion of the electric scooter.

Rolling resistance: Electric scooter tyres have lower rolling resistance in order to optimise overall efficiency, and give you more out of every recharge.

Different types of electric scooter tyres
Broadly, there are two types of electric scooter tyres. The first and most common type are pneumatic tyres, i.e. electric scooter tyres filled with air. Pneumatic tyres provide natural shock absorption, which is especially useful on bumpy Indian roads. These electric scooter tyres can be either tubed or tubeless. Tubed tyres are cheaper. However, in the case of a puncture, the tyre goes flat immediately. Tubeless electric scooter tyres, on the other hand, are easier to maintain and help you reach the nearest tyre repair shop. The other type of electric scooter tyres are ‘solid rubber’ tyres. These tyres are made solely out of rubber, and don’t need any air, making them practically flat-free and therefore, hassle-free. However, they aren’t as shock absorbent and provide less traction on wet surfaces. In order to mitigate some of these disadvantages, some tyre manufacturers have started making vented, honeycomb, or foam-filled solid tyres, thus increasing their durability and shock absorption abilities.
Choosing the best Tyres for electric scooter
So should you go for pneumatic or solid electric scooter tyres? That depends upon your preferences and where you’re most likely to ride your e-scooter. If you live in a city where the roads are bumpy or filled with potholes, the shock absorption of pneumatic tyres with large diameter could help you with a smoother ride experience. For a city with relatively better roads, or if you’re going to be riding on a smoother highway more often than in the city, consider solid tyres for their durability and low-to-no-risk of puncture. Solid tyres are not recommended by most manufacturers as it is not practical on city roads.Apart from the type of tyre, the tread patterns of your electric scooter tyres is also something that can drastically affect your riding experience. A smooth tread pattern soothes city roads, especially the sleeker main roads, whereas the off-road or bumpy rides are better navigating using tyres with a knobby pattern.
Electric scooter tyres maintenance tips
Changing tyres often is not ideal, especially from a cost perspective. So, to make the most out of your electric scooter tyres, take these few easy steps. One, go to the Ather Store - our store for electric scooter accessories, and invest in a good tyre inflator and a TPMS (Tyre Pressure Monitor System). With these sleek electric scooter accessories, you can keep a constant eye on the tyre pressure and inflate them yourself, if needed, easily.Riding your electric scooter on tyres that are not well inflated can cause tyre damage, reduced shock absorption capabilities and reduced range for your electric scooter. It can also compromise your handling capabilities and lead to accidents. Having said that, over-inflated tyres are also at the risk of punctures and provide bumpy rides. It’s also important to keep the tyres clean and adhere to your scooter’s maintenance schedule to get the best out of your electric scooter and its tyres.

How to Choose the Best Electric Scooter for Women?

Introduction
Let’s face it: men and women are different. And we don’t mean in the ‘Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus’ kind of sense. Our physical and physiological differences mean we have different ergonomic needs from the products we use. Unfortunately, perhaps the greatest, yet least talked about gender bias is in the field of product design, where women often have no choice but to use a scaled-down or pink-coloured version of a product designed for men, by men. Which is why, at Ather, we didn’t create a separate Ather 450 for women in a pink colour, but genuinely worked towards designing a smart, sleek electric scooter that suits both men and women. In this article, we talk about the factors to look out for while buying an electric scooter for women and why Ather makes the best electric scooter in India for ladies.
Things to Consider Before Buying an Electric Scooter for Women
Though mobility should be a basic right for anyone above 18 years of age, it took Indian society a considerable amount of time to get used to the idea of women riding their own scooters and vehicles independently. And with the advent of the lightweight electric scooter, it has become even easier and convenient for women to move around the city. However, the choices for the best electric scooter for women are the ones that cover a few basic necessities and features, and combine functionality with style. Here’s what you should look out for while considering an electric scooter for ladies:

Sleek and Compact: An electric scooter for women has to be a sleek electric scooter for better manoeuvrability, especially in heavy traffic conditions in cities. Lightweight electric scooters reduce exertion on the body while commuting. This, in turn, reduces the chances of a loss of control, and increases safety. Sleek electric scooters are also easier to store and take out any time you need.

Range: The best electric scooter for ladies are the ones which have a significant range, i.e. give you maximum mileage on a single full charge. Lightweight electric scooters tend to have better ranges, which allow ladies to ride around the city without the hassle. The Ather 450X - gives a TrueRange™ of 110km on a full charge, which is more than enough for a daily commute and more. You can charge the scooter once in a couple of days and yet use the scooter for commuting to office and finish the last minute chores.

Safety: Remember the shocking statistic about car crash injuries earlier? With sleek electric scooters, especially ones that are sturdy, one can mitigate the likelihood of serious injury, as the electric scooter itself can absorb a major chunk of the impact. What’s more, the Ather 450X is the one of the best electric scooter for women, especially when it comes to safety features. The Ather 450X complements amazing acceleration with dual disc brakes that makes the vehicle as smoothly as it started. It’s also got an Emergency Stop Signal feature that activates the blinking of the tail light in case of a sudden brake. In case the rider falls off the scooter, the FallSafe™ feature cuts off the power supply to the motor and stops the scooter from moving further. The Dark Mode feature enables easier riding at night, while the Guide-Me-Home Light feature keeps the headlight on for 20 seconds in the dark, so the rider is taken care of until they reach their doorstep.

Comfort: For women, test riding an electric scooter becomes all the more crucial, considering that even the most sleek electric scooters may not be ergonomically suitable to your body. Common Electric Scooter Charging Problems and How to Fix Them

Tagged in 'Service'

Introduction
An electric scooter not charging can be a frustrating experience, especially when you rely on it for daily commutes. Charging issues often stem from simple, fixable problems related to the charger, the charging port, or the battery itself. Understanding the common signs of an electric scooter charging problem and knowing how to safely troubleshoot the components is essential. Here are some practical steps to diagnose and resolve the most frequent charging issues, ensuring your electric scooter charging is smooth and efficient.
Common Signs That Your Electric Scooter Isn’t Charging Properly
Recognising the symptoms of an electric scooter charging problem early can help prevent further damage and costly repairs. Look out for the following signs that indicate a fault in how to charge an electric scooter:

Charging Light Irregularity: When the charger’s indicator light either does not blink green or turns red. A blinking green light indicates charging is in progress. Solid red means the charger is faulty.

Slow or No Charging: The battery takes significantly longer than the typical 4-6 hours to reach full charge, or the battery level does not increase at all after being plugged in.

Rapid Battery Drain: Your scooter's battery empties much faster than expected, even after the indicator showed a full charge. This points to underlying electric scooter battery issues, such as age or degradation.

Physical Damage or Odour: Visible signs of physical damage like bulging, cracks, or leakage on the battery are serious red flags. A burnt smell during charging signals severe electrical issues and requires immediate attention.

Unusual Heat: While some warmth is normal, an unusual or excessive amount of heat from the battery or charger, melting of the plastics or the plug itself indicates an electric scooter overheating problem and requires immediate action.

How to Prevent Overheating While Charging Your Electric Scooter
Electric scooter overheating is a critical safety and battery health concern that can be easily prevented with these smart charging habits:

Charge in a Cool, Ventilated Area: Always charge your scooter indoors at room temperature, ideally between 5°C and 45°C. Place the charger carefully to avoid obstructing its air ventilation, ensuring proper airflow and preventing overheating.

Avoid Direct Heat: Do not charge the scooter immediately after a long ride; allow the battery to cool down first. Avoid charging in direct sunlight or in extremely hot environments.

Unplug Once Charged: To avoid the risks of heat generation from overcharging, unplug your scooter once the charging process is complete. Ather scooters have optimized charging and the chargers have overvoltage cutoff protection, but this remains a best practice.

Use the Right Charger: Only use the original charger provided by the manufacturer or a compatible, manufacturer-approved charger. Incompatible chargers can cause overheating and potential damage.

Charge on a Safe Surface: Charge your scooter on a hard, flat, and non-flammable surface, and never on soft materials like carpet or a bed.

Avoid placing the charger in wet or dusty environments to prevent electrical malfunctions and ensure proper fan operation.

Avoid excessive stress on the cables.

Step by Step Troubleshooting Guide for Common Charging Issues
If you find your electric scooter not charging, follow this guide to identify and fix the fault.Step 1: Inspect the Charger and Power Source

Check Connections and Outlet: Ensure the charger is properly plugged into a functional wall outlet and the connection to the scooter is snug. Try a different power outlet to rule out a faulty socket.

Visual Inspection: Look for any visible damage to the electric scooter charger not working, such as frayed cables, bent prongs, damaged adapter or charger. Replace the charger if any damage is found.

Test the Charger: If available, use a known working charger (of the same voltage) on your scooter to determine if the charger is the root of the electric scooter charging problem.

Troubleshooting: To identify any fault, observe the LED light. If it is staying solid red or green, then power off, restart the AC source and see whether the issue is resolved. If not, check again in a bit. If not resolved, check with another Ather scooter.

Step 2: Examine the Charger

Clean the Port: The charging port often accumulates dirt, dust, or debris, which can block the connection. Use a soft, dry cloth or compressed air to gently clean the charging port.

Check for Physical Damage: Inspect the port for bent pins, corrosion, or a loose connection. You can gently straighten bent pins with needle-nose pliers, but be extremely cautious to avoid breaking them.

Step 3: Check for Internal and Battery Issues

Look for Battery Damage: Visually inspect the battery for signs of swelling, cracks, or leakage. These electric scooter battery issues are serious and require immediate professional attention or replacement.

Reset the Scooter: A software glitch can sometimes prevent the electric scooter not charging. Unplug the charger, power off the scooter, and hold the power button for about 10 seconds to attempt a system reset.

Step 4: Seek Professional Help

If you have followed all these steps and the electric scooter charger not working is still an issue, the problem is likely internal or with the Battery Management System (BMS).

Contact your manufacturer or an authorised service center for diagnosis and repair. Never attempt to open or repair the battery pack yourself.

Similarly, when slow charging: Check whether the charger’s fan is running while charging. If it is, the issue is with the communication lines of the charger or the vehicle. In both cases, visit your nearest Ather service center.
Conclusion
Addressing an electric scooter charging problem requires a logical and systematic approach. By recognising the signs that your electric scooter is not charging and adhering to best practices on how to charge an electric scooter (especially to prevent electric scooter overheating), you can resolve most issues quickly and maintain the long-term health of your vehicle. Periodic checks on your charger, port, and battery are the best defense against unexpected downtime.

Do I Need a License for an Electric Scooter? The Truth Behind India's EV Rules

The shift to electric mobility is one of the most exciting electric scooter trends in India today. EVs offer silent, efficient, and cost-effective commuting, making them an ideal choice for the urban landscape. However, as the technology evolves and the scooters get smarter and faster, like the high-performance Ather 450 series, many riders have one crucial question: do I need license for electric scooter? The short answer is: It depends entirely on the specifications of your electric scooter. Unlike petrol vehicles, the electric scooter licence rules are clearly defined by two specific technical thresholds. Understanding these rules is essential to ensure you are riding legally, safely, and responsibly.
Why License Rules Vary for Electric Scooters in India
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) classifies electric scooters based on their performance, which determines whether they are treated as non-motorised vehicles or full-fledged motor vehicles.

Maximum Speed: The scooter’s top speed.

Motor Power Output: The electric motor’s maximum wattage.

If a scooter exceeds 25 km/h OR has a motor output greater than 250 Watts (0.25 kW), it is classified as a high-speed electric motor vehicle. This means the answer to does electric scooter need license is a definite Yes.High-performance scooters, like the Ather 450X or Ather Rizta, which have top speeds of 90 km/h or more and motor power far exceeding 250W, absolutely require a valid driving license. The entire legal framework for an electric two-wheeler hinges on these two factors:
Electric Scooter License Age in India
The electric scooter license age in India is directly linked to the scooter’s classification:

<colgroup><col style="width:25%;" width="156"><col style="width:25%;" width="174"><col style="width:25%;" width="154"><col style="width:25%;" width="139"></colgroup>

Scooter Type

Top Speed & Power

Minimum Age Requirement

License Required?

Low-Speed (Non-Registered)

25 km/h & 250 Watts

16 years

No

High-Speed (Registered)

> 25 km/h or > 250 Watts

18 years

Yes (Two-Wheeler License)

For high-speed scooters, the minimum age for driving electric scooter is the standard 18 years, as they are treated identically to a petrol scooter. The rider must possess a valid two-wheeler driving license (without gear) to operate it legally.
Which Electric Scooters Don’t Require a License in India?
The category of vehicles where the answer to which electric scooter does not need license is affirmative, comprises only the low-speed models. These scooters are legally considered "electric bicycles" because their limited speed and power are deemed safe enough to integrate into traffic without requiring formal RTO registration or a license. Their specifications are capped strictly at a top speed of 25 km/h and a motor output of 250W. Examples include models like the Yulu Wynn, Hero Electric Flash LX etc.If you are looking for the performance and sophisticated features found in an Ather scooter such as Warp Mode, Google Maps navigation, or SkidControl, you are looking at a high-speed vehicle, and the electric scooter licence rules apply in full.
Things to Know Before Riding an Electric Scooter Without a Licence
Even if you choose a low-speed model where a license is not legally mandatory, there are still crucial rules to follow to ensure electric scooter safety and compliance:

Helmet Rule: Wearing a helmet is legally mandatory for all high-speed electric scooters and is strongly recommended for every electric scooter type, regardless of speed, as a measure of electric scooter safety.

Speed Limitations: These low-speed models are restricted to city roads and are generally unsafe for highways or fast-moving traffic corridors.

Insurance: While registration is exempt, possessing at least third-party insurance is mandatory for all registered electric scooters. Even for exempt models, insurance provides crucial financial protection against damage or theft.

No Underage Driving: Even for low-speed models, the minimum age for driving electric scooters on public roads is 16 years.

How to Register Electric Scooter in India?
For high-speed electric scooters (which are the only models Ather manufactures), registration is mandatory. The process of how to register electric scooter is straightforward and typically handled by the dealership itself, making the process seamless for the buyer.

Document Submission: The dealer collects necessary KYC documents (ID, address proof), the sales invoice, and the mandatory insurance policy from the buyer.

RTO Application: The dealer submits these documents and the RTO forms (like Form 20 and 21) on the customer's behalf via the online portal.

Verification and Issuance: The RTO verifies the details and technical specifications (motor, chassis number).

Number Plate: Once approved, the Registration Certificate (RC) is issued, and the scooter is fitted with a green-background High-Security Registration Plate (HSRP). This plate signifies a zero-emission vehicle and is a clear indicator that the scooter is fully compliant with the electric scooter licence rules.

Conclusion
The question do I need license for electric scooter is simple: if you want the high-end performance, range, and smart features of a top-tier EV like an Ather, the answer is yes, and the electric scooter licence rules apply just as they do to any conventional two-wheeler. Electric Scooter GPS Navigation Systems for Safer, Smarter Rides

Introduction
In the early days of electric vehicles, a "smart" scooter was one that simply had a digital speedometer. Today, the definition of an intelligent ride has been completely rewritten. As urban landscapes become more complex, the benefits of an electric scooter GPS navigation system have shifted from being a premium "extra" to an absolute necessity for the modern Indian commuter.Whether you are weaving through the legendary traffic of Bengaluru or exploring the narrow lanes of Old Delhi, having integrated navigation changes how you interact with your city. At Ather, we didn’t just add a map to a screen; we integrated Google Maps into the very soul of the Ather 450X and Ather Rizta to ensure your ride is as seamless as it is silent.
How Does GPS Navigation Work in Electric Scooters?
Integrated GPS in an electric scooter works much like the system in your smartphone but is engineered for the rigors of the road. It uses a dedicated GPS module that communicates with a network of satellites to triangulate your precise coordinates. On an Ather, this location data is processed by the AtherStack software and overlaid onto a high-resolution Google Maps interface. Because the scooter has its own 4G LTE connectivity, it can download live traffic data and map tiles independently, ensuring that the navigation remains active even if your phone is tucked away in your pocket.
What Are the Main Features of an Electric Scooter GPS Navigation System?
A truly smart navigation system goes beyond just showing a map. It integrates with the vehicle’s "brain" to provide a holistic riding experience.1. Safety First: Keeping Your Eyes on the RoadThe most significant benefit of an integrated GPS system is safety. In a world of distracted driving, fumbling with a smartphone mounted on a vibrating handlebar is a recipe for disaster.

Eliminating Phone Mounts: Phone mounts are prone to failure—smartphones can overheat in the Indian sun, vibrate loose on potholes, or even be snatched in slow-moving traffic.

Optimal Viewing Angle: A built-in 7-inch TFT dashboard, like the one on the Ather 450X, is positioned perfectly within your line of sight. This allows you to glance at turn-by-turn directions without losing focus on the vehicles around you.

Weather-Proof Reliability: While a smartphone might shut down due to heat or get damaged in a sudden downpour, Ather’s dashboards are IP65-rated, meaning your navigation stays crystal clear whether it’s a dusty afternoon or a monsoon cloudburst.

2. Real-Time Efficiency with Google Maps IntegrationAther is the world's first scooter to offer a completely integrated Google Maps experience. This isn't just a static image; it's a living, breathing tool that understands the Indian road.

Live Traffic Updates: We’ve all been there—stuck behind a bus on a bridge with no way out. With built-in GPS, your scooter shows you Live Traffic in real-time. If a route turns red, the system suggests a faster alternative.

Two-Wheeler Specific Routes: Google Maps on Ather provides specific two-wheeler routes. This means your GPS will suggest shortcuts and lanes that are accessible to a scooter but closed to cars, potentially shaving minutes off your daily commute.

3. Smarter Range Management with Live Trip PlannerOne of the most innovative features is how the GPS talks to your battery. At Ather, we call this the Live Trip Planner. When you enter a destination, the scooter calculates if you have enough charge to make it. By analyzing the distance and the terrain, it provides a "trip feasibility" check. If you're running low, it will automatically suggest the nearest Ather Grid fast-charging points along your route.
What Are the Benefits of GPS Tracking in Electric Scooters?
While navigation helps you when you're on the scooter, GPS tracking provides value even when you're away from it.Enhanced Security and Peace of MindIntegrated GPS modules are the backbone of modern anti-theft suites.

Theft and Tow Alerts: If someone tries to move your scooter while it's parked, the onboard sensors detect the movement and send an instant notification to your smartphone via the Ather App.

Find My Scooter: Forget where you parked in a massive mall basement? Use the Ping My Scooter feature or check the live location on your app to find your ride instantly.

Live Location Sharing: You can share your live location with family members directly from the dashboard. They can track your progress in real-time, providing an extra layer of security. This can come in handy on late-night rides.

The Power of Over-The-Air (OTA) UpdatesThe beauty of a connected GPS system is that it never gets old. Through AtherStack updates, your navigation system actually improves over time. Recent updates have introduced features like Pothole Alerts, where community-sourced data warns you of potholes, speed bumps and a range of impediments ahead.Convenience Features That Matter

Push Navigation: Have the location on your phone? You can "Push" the pin directly to your scooter's dashboard so it’s ready to go when you are.

Saved Places: Store your "Home," "Office," and favorite hangouts for one-tap navigation.

Call & Music Control: Manage calls or switch tracks without exiting the navigation screen, thanks to the integrated Bluetooth connectivity.

Conclusion: Navigation is the Heart of the Smart Scooter
Choosing an electric scooter with a built-in GPS navigation system isn't just about finding your way; it's about reclaiming your time, ensuring your safety, and protecting your investment. While low-cost EVs might save you a few thousand rupees upfront by skipping these features, the long-term value of a connected, Google Maps-powered ride like an Ather is incomparable. The future of urban mobility is connected, and that connection starts with knowing exactly where you are and the best way to get where you're going.

Electric Scooter for Hilly Areas: Is Ather a Good Choice?

Introduction
The shift toward electric scooters in India is growing not only in cities but also in regions with hilly roads and changing road conditions. Many riders in towns near ghats and elevated areas often question “Is Electric Scooter good for hilly areas?” This concern usually comes from the belief that electric scooters may not have enough power to pull both the rider and the scooter on steep inclines, especially when the battery needs to deliver more power. At Ather Energy, we have designed the Ather 450 to meet real riding needs across India. Our scooters are built to handle different road conditions, including uphill climbs and uneven roads. Whether it is a short ride on steep roads or a daily commute through mixed roads, Ather scooters are designed to deliver steady performance and rider confidence in hilly areas. The lightweight yet sturdy fibre body enhances strength without adding unnecessary weight, making uphill rides smooth and confident. As a result, Ather scooters don’t just perform efficiently on flat city streets; they confidently answer both the questions, “Is Electric Scooter good for hilly areas?” and “Can electric scooters go uphill?” with a clear and definitive yes.
Can Electric Scooters Be Used in Hilly Areas?
Definitely yes, If you’re riding the Ather electric scooter. Ather Electric scooters inherently deliver instant torque, which is a major advantage over conventional petrol scooters. When you feel that instant power delivery makes your drive in hilly areas smoother and more responsive, this instant power is much needed to make uphill climbs feel smooth and easy. The Ather 450 comes with a high torque motor and ride modes that help you ride better on slopes and changing roads.
Key Features to Look for in an Electric Scooter for Hilly Roads
When choosing an electric scooter for hilly areas, look for these essential performance and safety features.High Torque Electric MotorAther’s electric scooters, like the Ather 450, deliver instant torque that become an added support for smooth climbs and confident throttle response on hilly areas.Intelligent Ride ModesAther 450 comes with multiple ride modes like Ride, Sport, and Warp. Auto-hold keeps your scooter perfectly in place on an incline without you having to hold the brakes. When you're ready to go, just twist the throttle.Dual Disc Brakes for the Descent: What goes up must come down. Going downhill requires massive stopping power and control. With Dual Disc Brakes, you get precise braking that doesn't fade, giving you total confidence on steep descents.Infinite Cruise: Infinite Cruise allows you to set a constant speed, meaning you don't have to keep the throttle twisted for long periods. It reduces rider fatigue and ensures a smooth, consistent climb without constant manual adjustment.
Tips for safe Riding an Electric Scooter in Hilly Areas
It is never enough to know and cover your basics; safety and confidence indeed go hand in hand. Whether you’re navigating gradients or winding roads, follow these e scooter safety tips:Keep a Smooth ThrottleIt is important to use the throttle gently while riding uphill. A smooth and steady throttle helps the scooter climb easily and keeps the wheels steady when the road surface changes.Maintain Good Riding PostureEnsure you are always seated with a balanced posture, grip firmly, and lean slightly into the climb to keep weight distribution optimal.Stay Alert Around CurvesAnother key e scooter safety tips included the familiarity that hilly areas often have sharp bends and turns. It is important that you slow down before entering and accelerate once you’re sure the path is clear.Perform Pre-Ride ChecksAlways make sure to check tire pressure, brakes, and battery level before heading out, no matter if it is a short or a long ride. These basics go a long way in safe riding.
Conclusion
The doubt about whether an electric scooter can truly handle hilly areas is ultimately a question of power and engineering. At Ather, we’ve designed the Ather 450 to be the definitive answer to that concern. Are Smart Helmets a Good Choice for Electric Scooter Riders in India?

Introduction
Riding safely and staying connected can be a very powerful experience when done the right way. Today, solutions available to a rider are largely clunky and unintuitive, whether that's taking a phone call (juggle phone between pockets, see who's calling, stop etc) or catching up on the latest music or podcast to drown out the ambient traffic noises.Riders wear ear buds that cut off all sounds entirely. Which can be dangerous for situational awareness such as ambulances or critical sounds. In ear buds can also be uncomfortable when paired with a correct size helmet. Most people end up trading safety for comfort, but using a large sized helmet to accommodate earbuds or just to stick their phone inside the helmet to take a call.At Ather, this thinking of riders preferences, safety and assistance led to the development of a thoughtfully designed smart helmet, Ather HALO.
What are smart helmets?
A smart helmet is advanced protective headgear that integrates technology such as sensors, Bluetooth connectivity, cameras, and sometimes augmented reality (AR) into traditional helmet designs. These helmets enhance safety, connectivity, and navigation for users, building upon the foundation of certified impact protection and layering intelligence. Ather has thoughtfully designed the Ather HALO to offer a safer and more enjoyable riding experience through its unique features:

ISI (IS:4151) and DOT Certification: Ensures non-negotiable safety and impact protection.

Integrated Music and Call Control: Allows for seamless, hands-free communication and entertainment.

Auto WearDetect: Provides instant and hassle-free connectivity as soon as you put it on.

Ambient Noise Reduction: Filters environmental noise to improve situational awareness and audio clarity.

Wireless Charging: Offers everyday convenience with boot-integrated and home charging options.

What Is the Difference Between a Normal Helmet and a Smart Helmet?
Both traditional and smart helmets serve the same fundamental role, protecting your head during your rides. The difference is in how they support awareness, communication, and comfort throughout a commute.

<colgroup><col style="width:23.97%;" width="101"><col style="width:35.26%;" width="230"><col style="width:40.77%;" width="294"></colgroup>

Feature

Normal Helmet

Smart Helmet

Fundamental Role

Protecting your head during your rides.

Protecting your head during your rides.

Core Functionality

Offers physical protection and little else.

Extends the intelligence of your scooter to your riding gear.

Connectivity

No built-in connectivity; requires external devices or stopping to check the phone.

Integrated music and call control, voice control, and crisp audio with environmental noise filtration.

Communication

Manual; isolated from digital interfaces.

Stay connected without needing to access your phone.

Rider Awareness

Focuses solely on physical safety.

Supports awareness, communication, and comfort throughout a commute.

Integration

Acts as a standalone accessory.

When paired with Ather’s smart dashboard, turn-by-turn navigation, and real-time ride data, it feels less like an accessory and more like a natural extension of the scooter itself.

Is Smart Helmet Worth Buying?
Indian commuting conditions demand constant awareness. From sudden lane changes to unpredictable traffic patterns, staying alert is essential. This is where the advantages of smart helmet adoption becomes clear. For riders who already benefit from connected features on their Ather scooter, a smart helmet enhances the experience by reducing distractions and supporting hands-free interaction. Features like ambient noise reduction, and premium sound helps you stay aware of your surroundings while staying connected. With wireless charging support, the Ather Halo adds everyday convenience. Riders using the Rizta with a compatible Ather Halo can simply drop the helmet into the boot to charge, while wireless home charging ensures ease across other vehicles. When your scooter, charging routine, and longer routes are already optimised, adding smart Helmets complete the ecosystem rather than complicating it. These benefits clearly highlight the advantages of smart helmet usage in daily commuting.
Advantages of Smart Helmets for Electric Scooters
The advantages of smart helmet usage go beyond novelty when viewed through daily riding needs:

Hands-free music and call control for safer communication

Crisp audio with environmental noise filtration

Better integration with connected scooter systems

Improved situational awareness with ambient noise reduction

ISI (IS:4151) and DOT certified protection

Together, these advantages of smart helmet design align with how Ather builds products: focused on real-world usability, rider confidence, and everyday practicality.
Tips for Choosing the Perfect Smart Helmet for Your E Scooter
If you’re considering upgrading your riding gear, knowing how to choose best helmet options for your needs are essential:

Safety Certifications First: You should always start and look for safety certifications; no technology should come before protection. These features will make your daily usage predictable and hassle-free.

A Connected Riding System: Most importantly, you have to ensure the helmet complements your scooter’s capabilities and your riding.
