Introduction

Our roads are seeing more and more electric scooters every day. Used for daily commutes and even long distances, the electric scooter isn’t just a travel trend but the primary mode of commute for many of us.

And as more people adapt to the thrill of riding an electric scooter, it’s important to know a few technicalities. The most important one is understanding an electric scooter’s battery and its warranty.

The heart of an electric scooter is its battery and motor. And like any electronic device, electric scooter batteries are sometimes prone to defects. That’s why it’s important to get an electric scooter battery warranty and understand how it works.

There is no standard electric scooter battery warranty. It differs among brands and their scooters. At Ather, we robustly test our batteries for their quality. But because we don’t want anything to come in the way of your smooth riding experience, every Ather electric scooter comes with a 3-year battery warranty.

We’ll repair any defect or failure, within your battery warranty to get your Ather back on the road!

But wait, this isn’t the complete story. At Ather, we realized that most battery warranties cover a defect, but none cover the state of health of an electric scooter’s battery pack. That’s when we innovated with Ather Eight70 Warranty. The only electric scooter battery warranty that not just ensures the battery performance but also health of your battery over the years. Let’s deep dive to know more.

What does an electric scooter’s battery warranty cover?

Let’s go back to the basics. Every electric scooter comes with its own warranty. There are usually three kinds of warranty coverage - overall vehicle, charger, and battery.

All Ather scooters come with a standard vehicle warranty of 3 years or 30,000 kms, whichever comes earlier. This warranty covers several parts like battery, brakes, throttle, motor, suspension, LCD screen and more. Whenever there’s a defect or unexpected problem, bring your Ather electric scooter to the nearest store and we’ll take care of it.

While the 3-year warranty covers multiple parts, the Ather Eight70 Warranty especially covers the battery and its health. There are 2 coverage options within this warranty to choose from: 5 years or 60,000 km and 8 years or 80,000 km, whichever comes first. This industry-first electric scooter battery warranty covers battery failure and also protects the battery against any degradation. If the battery’s State-of-Health falls under 70% anytime in the first 5 or 8 years (depending on the coverage option chosen), we will replace your old battery with a new one, no questions asked and without any extra charges.

Ather Eight70 Warranty comes with 100% coverage with no upper limits or hidden charges. And you can upgrade your warranty to Ather Eight70 Warranty anytime.

How to claim an electric scooter warranty

It is quite easy to claim the warranty of your electric scooter. But before you do that, you must check your original purchase receipt to confirm whether your electric scooter is still eligible for warranty.

To claim the electric scooter battery warranty, you'll need to get in touch with the retailer or the manufacturer, depending on the warranty terms and proof of purchase through an invoice, warranty card, or any document validating the purchase.

Simple steps you can take to claim your warranty:

  • Initiate the process by notifying the retailer or manufacturer about the issue.
  • Provide the proof of purchase along with details of the problem. And yes, don’t forget to keep it honest!
  • Send in the defective part if required.
  • The part would be assessed, and the replacement would be provided accordingly.

Additionally, some manufacturers may require a physical inspection of the scooter or the battery by an authorized service centre to confirm the fault and validate the warranty claim. It's also essential to report any issues promptly, as delays might affect the eligibility for a warranty claim. Understanding these nuances ensures a smoother and more efficient warranty claim process, safeguarding your investment.

Tips for Maintaining Your Electric Scooter Warranty

Warranties usually become void if they are misused or used outside of the directions of the manual and/or the warranty. All Ather scooters come with standard warranty policies. While these policies are designed to protect your vehicle from failures caused by manufacturing deficiencies, it can become void in scenarios including:

  • Missing of periodic services as recommended in Ather’s service schedule
  • Using your scooter for commercial purposes like taxi, fleet, motorsports or goods delivery etc. (unless otherwise provided in a special agreement)
  • Damages due to overexposure of the vehicle to harsh external conditions like industrial pollution, acidic environment, moisture, sun etc.
  • Parking or riding in water-logged roads with water above floorboard level
  • Loading the vehicle beyond defined load limits
  • Any damage caused due to an external impact

That’s why it’s important to maintain your electric scooter to make the most of your electric scooter warranty. Some tips to follow:

  • Never miss periodic services recommended by the manufacturer. Keep a track of these and make sure you are up to date with all service appointments.
  • Avoid causing extreme damages to your electric scooter like industrial pollution or riding in an acidic environment. This will make your warranty null and void.
  • Don’t load your electric scooter with heavy loads beyond estimated load limits. This can cause severe damage to you and your vehicle.
  • Avoid parking or riding in water-logged roads with water above floorboard level.

The warranty policies for electric scooters are crucial for both consumers and manufacturers, reflecting the reliability and quality assurance of the product. A comprehensive warranty not only protects the consumer from potential defects and malfunctions but also provides much needed safety assurance to the customers. Therefore, when purchasing an electric scooter, it is vital for consumers to thoroughly understand the warranty terms, including coverage periods, parts included, and the process for claiming warranty services. This will ensure they are making a well-informed investment that provides both ease of mobilty mobility and peace of mind.
