Ownership Transfer

    • How does the digital ownership transfer work? 

      The transfer can be initiated by either the seller or the buyer from the Ather app. Once a person initiates the request by entering the relevant scooter/ person details, the second person simply needs to review and accept the request on their app to complete the ownership transfer

      Does this process transfer the official RTO registration (RC)? 

      No. The app only transfers the digital controls, app access, scooter subscriptions, etc. You must still complete the legal RC transfer process through your local RTO or the Parivahan portal.

      What happens when I transfer my scooter to someone else? 

      Once the buyer accepts the transfer, you will immediately lose app access to the scooter. All active warranties, connected features, and remaining subscriptions will automatically transfer to the new owner. Scooter data such as ride stats and documents will be permanently removed.

      Will the new owner see my past ride history or saved places? 

      No. To protect your privacy, all your personal data—including ride statistics, saved documents, and navigation history (like Home or Work locations)—will be permanently erased from the scooter and the app during the transfer.

      What if the buyer/ seller hasn't accepted my request yet? 

      The transfer remains pending until the buyer/ seller accepts it. You can nudge the buyer/ seller to accept a request once every 24 hours until the request expires in 14 days.

      I already own a scooter on the app. Can I add another scooter under the same account? 

      Yes! You can manage multiple scooters from a single account. Simply go to select "Add a Scooter under “Manager scooter”, and follow the ownership transfer prompts to link your newly purchased second scooter to your existing account. Your scooter will now get mapped to your existing account

      Do I need to buy a new subscription for a second-hand scooter? 

      If the previous owner had an active subscription plan, the remaining validity period will automatically transfer to you. Once it expires, you can renew it directly from your app.

      What if I don't know the previous owner or can't contact them? 

      If you bought the scooter through a dealership or simply cannot reach the previous owner, you can write to our customer support team [email protected] with a copy of your updated RC (Registration Certificate) or valid proof of purchase, and we will securely process the digital ownership transfer.

      Can I transfer my scooter to a friend or family member? 

      Yes. You can use the in-app flow to transfer ownership, but remember this is a permanent digital handover. Your personal data will be wiped, and your app access with current phone number will be removed. The scooter’s warranty and active subscriptions will automatically migrate to the new owner's name.
